    In 1986, I was born in the state of South Carolina, in Florence County. I was raised in the small town of Lake City, South Carolina, which was established in the year of 1750. This town came into existence due to the fact it was on a road that ran between Kingstree to the south and Cheraw to the north. Later, there was a road placed between Georgetown and Camden adding to the cross of the older road, forming a crossroads. I have lived in Lake City, for majority of my life and as many others, wondered how the town ended up with such a name and we did not have a major “lake”. From research, I have learned that, Lake City was not the original name of the town. The town was chartered in 1874 as Graham, but the name was changed a few years later to Lynches Lake, due to there being a Post Office with the same exact name in South Carolina, the town decided in 1883 to the name Lake City, in honor of a nearby fishing lake (SCIWAY,n.d). Over the years, I have come to know quite a few people who live in what I considered a small town. Lake City has a population that is made up of 77%…
