Brian’s Song leaves a reader thinking and grateful for what they have. “I think I owe you a lot more than that”(71). After what Brian did to help Gale recover from his injury, Gale knows that what they have is special and they need to always be by each other’s side. This makes Brian grateful for the relationship he has. This is what makes the book so touching. I, like many others before me, felt moved from the book. What happens in the life of Brian and Gale makes it hard for one not to be moved. “You flatter me by giving me this award-but I tell you here and now I accept it for Brian Piccolo”(111). Brian wins the George S. Halas Courage Award, but cannot accept it. Yes, he went through struggles in his knee. Yet Brian was the one that helped him return to full health. And at the moment, Brian was facing a much bigger task than knee injury. What these two men do for each other makes Brian’s Song a must read. I would recommend this book to plenty of others. Brian’s Song is excellent at explaining the worth Brian and Gale were to each other. “Hey, Gale? They said you gave me a pint of blood. Is that true?”(112).
