Slide 1: Hi Everyone, I’ll be covering Sperry Glacier in Glacier National Park as my site location for the Dynamic Geologic Setting Project. Location: The Sperry Glacier is located in northwest Montana within Glacier National Park. The image on the left gives you some context with respect to the regional location. It is a small cirque glacier of about .8 square km and an average depth of 35 meters on the North slope of gunsight mountain. The area and depth are steadily decreasing however.…
The Elena Gallegos Open Space area sits near the base of the Sandia Mountains on a piedmont surface. This exercise was intended to gain insight into the mountain-front landforms of the Pino Embayment area. Through the use of surficial geological mapping and soil descriptions we were able to establish relative ages of geomorphic surfaces of the area and determine whether the area displayed qualities of alluvial fan and pediment surfaces. The geomorphic setting of the study area showed…
and minerals on the Mars surface the contributing factors in understanding the planet’s climate and geologic evolution, search for water and possibly evidence of life. Mars Odyssey detected large amounts of hydrogen in the form of water ice near the surface, measured the radiation level in low Mars orbit indicating that is twice that is in low Earth orbit and provided extraordinary surface maps that assisted in selection of landing site for the Mars Exploration Rover and The Phoenix…
arrived at Mars on September 12 1997, becoming the first successful mission to Mars since Viking 2 in 1976 (Mars Exploration, n.d.). The spacecraft orbited Mars for a year and a half due to a problem with one of the solar panels, until beginning to map the planet in March 1999, studying the “entire Martian surface, atmosphere and interior” (Mars Exploration,…
Design: - Under the design section we will deal with four parties Designers, Architects, engineers, and regulatory authorities. Each party has their own roles and responsibilities. Designers: - The designers will provide the assistance in project design and develop the activities based on our requirements. They will design documentations, technical provisions and other project related documents. They will discuss all the issues and new design ideas in the project meetings. In these meetings…
Key Question The key question for this research project is: what is the relationship of earthquakes and volcanoes along the Mid-Atlantic Ridge compared to Iceland? Introduction Iceland is located over the Mid-Atlantic Ridge between the North American Plate and the Eurasian Plate, and is an example of a mid ocean ridge seen on land. Iceland has divergent and transform plate boundaries, which are also seen along the Mid-Atlantic Ridge. The North American plate, with respect to the Eurasian…
This paper examples the formation of the Deccan traps, the Deccan continental flood basalt, and present day Indian. Its first provides a brief background on what the Deccan Traps are and the history of their geologic integrity. The proof is explained through scientists seismic tomographic models and the evolution of the Indian plate, the Reunion island hotspot, and the evolution of lithospheric mantle structure. Keywords: deccan, mantle, plate, hotspot, reunion, reconstructions.…
Chapter One Geology of Nile Delta of Egypt Introduction Egypt is about 1001449 Km², located in the Northern corner of Africa. Nile Delta is controlled with Nile river branches. Nile river is about 6825 Km long. It Extends from Latitude 4° S to 31° N from Ethiopia, Kenyan plateau and African highland to the Mediterranean sea. It’s the longest river in the world. Without Nile River and its valley Fig. (1.1) Egypt is mainly a desert country ( Sestini ,1995) The present Nile Delta region is…
Introduction As the human knowledge about the significance of environmental dynamics is increasing there has been an increasing consensus that the main challenges of the modern era include protecting the human health and well-being, as well as conserving the environments and the natural resources we depend upon, increasing food security, improving transportation services, land use planning and development, and providing increased services to the citizens at their doorsteps requires effective…
The distribution of events with magnitude M ≥5.5 is not uniform across the continent. Geologic Setting The continent of Australian is flank on its southern, eastern and western, edges by oceanic layer, which started to frame at c. 155 – 165 Ma (Stagg et al., 1999; Müller et al., 2000). The spreading of Seafloor stopped at c. 55 Ma, aside…
