Results Primer design and LAMP reaction Among 40 different primers (OPA 1-20 & OPB 1-20 series) screened by RAPD PCR for differentiating the Mycosphaerella eumusae from other leaf spot causing fungal pathogens in banana, only the primer OPB 10 has generated a unique amplicon specific to M. eumusae at 1300 bp size. A total of nine different sets of LAMP primers were designed based on this specific SCAR derived RAPD marker sequence of M. eumusae and screened for the production of LAMP products…
such as genetic engineering, recombinant DNA technology, tissue culture, protoplast culture etc. has helped to produce improved quality crops. The use of chemical fertilizers can only increase the production but research on genetic level to identify genes can not only improve quality but quantity of crops too. Food crops affected from insects and microbes can be treated using the r-DNA technology. Also there has been development to produce plants in the lab inside a cultural flask. Any part of…
HUMAN CLONING: PROS AND CONS OF REPRODUCTIVE CLONING Cloning is the process of creating identical cells, genes, organs or even organisms through asexual reproduction. It has been a common practice of mankind for a long time. It has becomes the debatable issue since it was used to clone animals around 40-50 years ago. Human cloning has created an offense toward ethical issue of human right. According to Yadav and Sharma (2011), the person who promoted human cloning must convince others and show…
Imagine hypothetical situation: two people are supposed to describe the color green. One of them speaks about the color of moss. The other about apples. What determines what’s going to be the first, intuitive response? Social background. No mater the effort, every human is bound by the way of thinking of his native society. The liberal education, although aspiring to the noble goals of wisdom and equality, is a victim to its social background as well. Therefore, the social bias, present in the…
tissues (Abawi and Grogan, 1979). The pathogen overwinters in the soil or on crop debris as sclerotia, which under suitable conditions germinate carpogenically to produce apothecia from which ascospores are released (Abawi and Grogan, 1979, Mila and Yang, 2008). Epidemics are initiated by airborne ascospores, originating from apothecia within the field and from external sources (Boland and Hall, 1987, 1988b, Foster et al., 2011, Wegulo et al., 2000). SRC is an economically important disease of…
Biofuel from GM Macro algae Hydrocarbon biofuels are produced by genetically modified seaweed which are obtained by inserting genes from high hydrocarbon producing micro algae into high growth seaweed species. Botryococcus braunii (BB) a green micro algae that produces large amounts of aliphatic hydrocarbon molecules is used as a source for genetic material. The genes that produce hydrocarbon in BB are identified, removed, cloned and subsequently inserted into high growth brown seaweeds like…
3. Results Considering the morphological characteristics of the ecotypes, the cladode shape was elliptic or ovate, the number of spines varied among three classes (many, intermediate or few), the flowers had two types of petal color (scarlet or yellow), the fruit was elliptic or ovoid and the pulp color was white, pale yellow or orange (Table 2). The OFI populations studied showed statistically significant differences for DM of the fruits, F (17, 34.24) = 31.61, p < 0.05, which varied…
Past: The Golgi-Apparatus was first discovered by the Italian physician, after which it was named, Camillo Golgi in the year 1897 (but only reported the discovery in 1898), and it appeared in scientific literature for the first time in 1910, but its existence was only proved later in the year 1954 with the help of electron-microscopic studies. Camillo Golgi was able to identify this organelle by using a special staining technique, which he called ‘Black Reaction’, which made it possible to…
This is what forms traits such as hair or eye color; genes from parents are mixed, and depending on the dominant/recessive alleles, the offspring could inherit one of the parents traits. Genetic diversity is caused by the crossing over of chromosomes during Prophase I, the random assignment of chromosomes…
3.3 Results and Discussion 3.3.1 Agarose Particles By microscopy observation, both ABT and CSS were activated by the Mix&GoTM solution with significant colour change on the particle surface. Seen from Figure 3-1 and 3-2, a dark green layer was formed outside the particle after treating with Mix&GoTM. By visual observation, the agarose particles turned from colourless to green, which supported the microscopy observation. The activated particles were also sent for zeta potential measurement and…
