Aristotle’s six elements highly influenced today’s movies, television shows, and theater musicals. These film/ T.V. shows have used several of Aristotle’s six elements from three-dimensional characters to spectacle and music. Aristotle’s six elements are the guidelines when the narrator is developing a script. The movie The Lion King came out in 1994; it is an animated musical film produced by Walt Disney. The Lion King demonstrated Aristotle two principles: symbolism and theme. The movie,…
A Brief Comparison of American Classics: Dexter & Hop-Frog How far is to far when it comes to getting revenge? The modern TV show Dexter by John Goldwyn and the historic “Hop-frog” by Edgar Allan Poe are two stories separated in time by nearly 160 years, yet they share many similarities worth mentioning. In Dexter a psychopath uses being a police investigator as a front to exact his revenge on criminals, while in Hop-Frog a crippled dwarf who also happens to be a court jester exacts his revenge…
One of the biggest let down of the year was Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. For me it’s was so- so, and missed a lot of opportunities. Last week the director's cut can out on digital download, and later in the month Blu-ray and DVD will be in stores. The question the nerd community is asking is if Batman v Superman: Ultimate Edition better than the Theatrical cut? Yes and no. Upon a second viewing of the movie, I liked it a little more. The cut clarifies many plot points many viewers had…
Picture this: You’re watching a movie that takes place in Africa. The narrator says, “Look at those zebras!” but the camera zooms in on elephants. It would be confusing and wouldn’t make sense, right? So why is it that movies do the same thing with their actors? Fwor as long as movies have been produced, there has been much controversy with the casting choices. The directors often cast actors and actresses who are white for roles meant for people of color. Edward Zo auditioned to get the role as…
a 47% from one week ago, the film has maintained relevancy in the face of potential disaster. The film, starring Alexander Skarsgård, is far from being out to the woods, though, - having only…
In the film “The Hurricane” directed by Norman Jewison, the main theme is imprisonment. The theme focuses on not only physical imprisonment but also imprisonment of our mind through misconceptions and internal conflict. Norman also displays the willpower it takes to overcome these types of imprisonment. Norman uses a range of symbolism, shots and dialogue to help the audience to not only understand and relate to the themes and ideas but also the overarching message of the film, to never give up…
Creation of Emotion in The Hunger Games While we watch movies, we are made to feel different emotions. This is because all directors have a goals to entertain and connect with the audience. To do this, directors use different aspects of film to connect the audience to the characters on-screen. In The Hunger Games, director Gary Ross evokes variations of sadness and discomfort to connect viewers to the characters through music, sound, and character emotion. In the next few paragraphs, I will…
draw attention to the duty that every citizen has to the state. I think that although the film is not overtly fascist, that it has a lot of fascist themes and undertones that allow it to be qualified as a fascist film. I think that the choice of a lowly shepherd from Sicily as the main character suggests that Blasetti wanted to appeal to the everyday man and women. As far as instilling patriotic sentiments, a film where Garibaldi is the main character would have achieved the same results.…
The film I watched this week was Marvel’s Doctor Strange, a comic book adaptation of the famed Doctor Strange character created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko. This film was about an extraordinary surgeon known as Doctor Stephen Strange who loses the ability to utilize his hands and seeks help to regain the ability to be a surgeon in many ways finally being forced to seek the help of a mysterious being known as The Ancient One. In doing so, Stephen Strange gains many new abilities that change him…
The expectations about Suicide Squad were high as the offbeat movie of anti-heroes, but it turned out to be much below the mark. The anti-heroes failed to terrorize and were more of an eyesore. Some characters need a special mention. Killer Crocs did not seem to be villainous enough and one can hardly bear him on the screen for long. Slipknot’s on screen presence was not felt at all as his role was just that while escaping he gets caught by the Special Forces. Boomerang appeared to be more of…
