    The lottery is used as a means of raising money by selling numbered tickets and giving prizes to the holders of numbers drawn at chance. All across America billions of dollars are thrown into a melange of dreams in hopes to be selected at random. Winners indolently pitch in a few dollars to the mixture to hope to become a multimillionaire overnight. Losers become ignorant hopefuls in pursuit of riches because they believe someone is “destined” to win. Similarly, the American Dream evades the majority of the American population, yet is so largely pursued. The ultimate goal of the lower and middle classes of America is to eventually grasp upper-class status. This hope is fueled by the countless hours spent fretting about overdue debts, and the desire to be relinquished of all negative monetary stress. The American Dream is pursued by a large number of Americans, but only a few are still able to capture it. The American Dream is largely based off the opinions of the lavish lifestyle the world has come to believe upper-class Americans live. In the past, the American Dream was to get rich quick with the rapidly growing country. Now, the American Dream is viewed as gigantic houses, expensive cars, and a seemingly endless amount of money to spend any way imaginable. Due to the changing definition of the American Dream, it is now practically unattainable for most.
