    Not long after Javert helped Jean Valjean get Marius to his grandfather’s house, Javert took Jean Valjean to his address. Instead of taking Jean Valjean back to the galleys as a prisoner, Javert waited till Jean Valjean went inside his building to leave. After leaving Jean Valjean behind, Javert begin to reflect back on his actions and the logic he had behind them, in the end “he saw before him two roads, both equally straight, but he saw two, and that terrified him -him, who had never in his life known but one straight line.
