lot of one single crop was a bad idea. Having a few types of delicious apples and the same bananas at the store every day made me feel comfortable. I knew exactly what I was getting every time I went to the store. No mass difference between types of fruits and vegetables was found. I was ok with this standard. However, after going through the readings throughout this semester my position has changed on my monoculture habituation. It turns out that monocultures pose a lot of threats and with one…
The recommended amount from MyPlate for fruits is 2 cups per day. I consumed 3 cups of fruits in a 24 hr. period. My goal is do reduce the amount of fruits by 1 cup a day, while still focus on eating whole fresh fruits. I do also purchase most of my fruit from the local Farmers Market. This makes me successful in achieving my daily-recommended goal. This would be by far the hardest goal to achieve. I love fresh fruit, and having to reduce the intake, will be a challenge. I…
spread of the pest from Fraser Valley (BC Ministry of Agriculture, 2016b). After females insert their eggs (Fig 3), apple is damaged by tunnelling of larvae through the flesh of fruit (Fig 4, 5). As the growth of larvae, the tunnels will become larger inside the fruit, which would eventually drop prematurely or mushy. Rotted fruit will appear during storage even with a slight infestation (BC Ministry of Agriculture, 2017). This pest would cause up to 100% yield loss (Agriculture and Agri-Food…
savoring the genuine fruits, whose health claims are proven. Want the robust benefits that superfruits claim to have? Red wine, blueberry juice and Concord grape juice all outperform acai in terms of antioxidants, and these are more readily available (thus, cheaper). heat we experienced that day astonished us. While we kept complaining, I suddenly found a French article stating that 2014 has won the record of the warmest year. Despite the efforts of our President for the past ten years planting different kinds of fruit trees and vegetables all over the country, it seems like the policy he introduced was not very effective to reduce the rise of temperature. A year later, in November 2015, at the summit called COP21 in Paris, where leaders of different nations…

When I was fifteen I was a mime for three months. I lived in Taiwan, I was alone, I couldn’t speak more than a few sentences of Chinese, so I had to be a mime. A semipermanent game of charades was the only way to communicate with the people around me. Eventually, as the year progressed, I became fluent in Mandarin, so my mime skills were no longer necessary. However, I did realize that when one loses the ability to speak, they gain more of an understanding of the world around them. Living in a…
