Frederic Chopin was a Romantic period composer and pianist from Poland. A musical prodigy, he composed his first Polonaise when he was seven years old. In 1830, Chopin left Warsaw due to the Polish November Uprising which inspired him to compose music with nationalistic elements. The following year, he traveled to Paris, which became his home for the rest of his life and met fellow contemporaries such as Franz Liszt and Felix Mendelssohn. This meeting gave him a chance to showcase his talents and he went on to become a highly paid music instructor. Despite being a renowned pianist, Chopin preferred to perform with an intimate group of people at private houses or a salon and rarely gives any public performances. Highly private in nature, this…
Hello. This is the life of Frederic Chopin. Fryderyk Chopin, the polish variation of his name, was born in Zelazowa Wola, 46 kilometers west of Warsaw. The baptismal record gives his birthday as February 22, 1810, and cites his given names in the latin form, Fridericus Franciscus. However, the composer and his family used the birthdate March 1st. Nicolas Chopin, Frederic’s father, was a Frenchman from Lorraine who had emigrated to Poland in 1787. Nicolas tutored children in the Polish…
Frederic Chopin was born on March 1, 1810, in a small town, named Zelazowa Wola, Poland. Chopin lived during a fearful time of Polish history. He grew up in an occupied country and died being barred from a native country, never experiencing living in liberated homeland. Even if this was a rather heartbreaking period for Chopin, who openly expressed his affection and care for the Poland, it never caused him to enjoy life less than it allowed him. He had a sensitive temperament full of enthusiasm…

The Medieval era, The Renaissance which signifies “rebirth” also known as the time of cultural awakening finishing off with the Modern Period. On April 12 I attended a piano recital at The New School presented by Julia Hamos a student who at the time was working on a music major. The pianist came…
On October 22, 2016, I had the opportunity to attended a piano recital performed by Vadym Kholodenko, the 2013 Van Cliburn gold medalist. Although I have attended many concerts before, I had never been to a piano recital. Honestly, I have to say that I did not think that I would enjoy it as much as I did. The concert began at 7:30. The stage of the Mary Alice Marshall Performing Arts seemed empty on that evening, due to the fact that it had nothing but a beautiful grand piano. However,…

Prelude Frederic Chopin, famous 19th century composer, taught me that life is lived in preludes. Beginnings, fragments, moods-in- miniature, some less than a minute long. Introductions to larger works that don’t even exist. Lullabies overtaken by laments. “Why can’t you be more like Mozart?” I once asked him. “More…predictable, more full of pleasing pattern?” “Why can’t you?” he shot back. Ghosts can be very peevish. But Chopin didn’t like to be called a ghost. Or an imaginary friend.…
Throughout human history, there has alway been disequality between women and men, even now there is still a visible difference between the treatment of men and women. The Romantic Era was no different, during this time men were seen as superior to women, and the women were treated like dirt as a result. This can be deduced from several Romantic Era writings, such as The Poor Singing Dame by Mary Robinson and The Thorn by William Wordsworth. The Romantic Era must have been a rough time for women…
