Did you know a member of the Macnider family helped create the Mason City Public Library? Mason City is located in Iowa and the Mason City Public Library is now located on 225 2nd St SE. The Library is important in the history in Mason City because of the first attempts of a library, the first attempts of a public library, how May Hanford Macnider helped the library progress, the current library, and what was changed in the current library. In 1871, the first library was opened. That library was a subscription library so only paid subscribers could borrow books. There were lots of different locations of the libraries like in 1888 a second library was opened as a reading room. The paid libraries endured a fire and economic depression. A public library was made available because in 1892 Mason City residents voted on giving 1 million dollars worth of tax money to support a free library. The first locations were on South Federal but moved to East State Street in 1893. That building was later burned down. It moved again to a large home owned originally by D.M Tiffany. The building was named Tiffany house after the owner. A few years later money became available the Tiffany house was demolished for a new structure. The Carnegie Foundation and local money made the money available. The new library was called the Carnage Library. It was opened in 1903. May Hanford Macnider was an active subscriber in the first library and was an important part of the library’s history.…
He said the reason why he joined was “I wanted to be different from everyone else, I did not want to follow down the same road like other people I graduated with and get a regular job barely making ends meet. We did not have very much money to send me to college, so I decided to join the military.” Shortly after graduating high school he went to the recruiter’s office in town to sign up, then to Montgomery, Alabama to follow up. Kenneth got a brief basic training in Montgomery, but within two…

The information that was given to deputy’s en-route to the scene was “Complainant’s friend called and advised their house was being robber, but complainant does not know the location, just that is near the front gate”. Due to this information, it…

The…

After high school as a young adult I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do as a career and I what direction I wanted my life to take. I decided to try something different and enlist in the Army. While in the Army as a recruit I made a life altering decision to volunteer for the 75th Ranger Regiment. Nothing has had a stronger impact on my life than my 9 years in the Ranger Regiment because there I learned that if I put my mind to a task I could succeed, I found a career field that I am good at and…
the British forces were in good condition and by 30 June occupied the undefended Fort Crown Point. As he had planned, General Burgoyne acquired approximately 500 indians en route to provide scouting and intelligence functions within his expedition. On 2 July, his army began efforts to overtake Fort Ticonderoga, held by a small garrison under the command of General Arthur St. Clair. He was ordered by General Philip Schuyler to hold as long as possible, but the British quickly took the…
