    As a former Chief Investigator for the Hardeman County Sheriff’s Department, our department faced many different dilemmas when it came to the purchasing of safety equipment for the department. The department had to begin to look at purchasing bullet proof vest for men and women of the department. There were many different strategies that were to be used during the purchase of the bullet proof vest. The Sheriff Department used the cost- plus pricing method, which is a mechanism that is used to determine the price Thomas, Maurice, (2010). I was determined as a supervisor to purchase the best bullet proof vest for the department, but the board wanted to purchase the cheapest product for the department and save money for the county. During the purchasing of the vest the board started to understand that cost pricing was equal to the average cost plus the portion of average cost that included the mark up on the product Thomas, Maurice, (2010). The department also recognizes that the process of decision speed which is critical determinant of firm performance, particularly in dynamic environments, also to be used in proper purchasing of the bullet proof vest.
