redesigned to better support additional structural demands. The engineering design project was conducted to construct a new wing beam design for the B-52 bomber and to compose an analysis of the new main wing spar. Given the information and the requirements that must be met with this design, our team went through the steps of the design process to come up with 3 concept variants. Of the 3 variants, we recommend to the Air Staff that the beam is to be made out of Steel SAE 4340 and configured into the T-beam shape in order to optimize each requirement for the wing beam design. The dimensions we found to optimize this design includes a length of 1257 inches, width of 26.01 inches, height of 34 inches, stem thickness of 3.31 inches, and the flange thickness of 3.40 inches. The Air Force has been unable to purchase airplanes due to a reduction or lack of funds, therefore the B-52 will have to remain as the backbone of the bomber fleet for many years to come. Nonetheless, because of the age of the aircraft and the stresses caused by new missions, the B-52 wing needs structural improvement. The objectives of this engineering design project is to redesign the wing spar to support the many loads the wing is required to hold while satisfying additional design requirements. In addition to coming up with the design, we had to run an analysis to see which design will produce the best outcomes for the plane, the missions it will fly, and ultimately for the Air Force. To come up with the…

The variable cost is $1 per flange for materials, and $2 per flange ($20 per hour divided by 10 flanges per hour) for direct manufacturing labor. 2. The inventoriable (manufacturing) cost per unit for 5,000 flanges is $3 × 5,000 + $20,000 = $35,000. Average (unit) cost = $35,000 ÷ 5,000 units = $7 per unit. This is below Fred’s selling price of $8.25 per flange. However, in order to make a profit, Graham’s Glassworks also needs to cover the period (non-manufacturing) costs…

actuator for the left wing’s outboard leading edge slat were severed, and the slats retracted during climb out. This caused an asymmetric stall and subsequent loss of control of the aircraft. Because of the loss of slat disagreement light and loss of the stall warning system, the flight crew never received warning of the stall. The separation of engine and pylon assembly was determined to be caused by a complete failure of the forward flange, which had its strength reduced from fracture during…

Many researchers are still studying about the cut along the section and it also known as the notch in hot-rolled steel. The study of the hot-rolled steel notch can be a reference in the CFSS. The CFSS with cut still limited in the information for analysis and design. There a lot of researchers study about the steel notch such as Refs.…
