In addition, corporal punishment prevents future negative acts and behaviors from recurring, corporal punishment teaches the child self-discipline. Traditionally, some families implemented corporal punishment in raising children. Corporal punishment was an effective method families used to discipline children. “While the early history of corporal punishment is unclear, the practice was certainly present in classical civilizations, being used in Greece, Rome, Egypt, and Israel. In Medieval Europe, corporal punishment was encouraged by the attitudes of the medieval church towards the human body, with flagellation being a common means of self-discipline” (New World Encyclopedia, 2013). Furthermore, Corporal punishment was even used in the military. This practice was used across a vast of different cultures and institutions. “Corporal Punishment has been a common punishment since ancient times. Jesus was whipped before he was crucified. In England from the Middle Ages whipping was a common punishment for minor crimes. In the 18th century whipping or flogging was a common punishment in the British army and navy.
