Furthermore, this leads into the rationale of Justice. Justice is blind to the concept of “getting even”, while still maintaining a degree of fairness. While with Revenge, “As perverse as it may seem, there’s actual pleasure experienced in causing others to suffer for the hurt they’ve caused the avenger, or self-perceived victim” (Seltzer Ph.D.). Justice primarily focuses on principles of rationality, while Revenge seeks emotional gratification for the victim. In Albania, for example, an estimated 10,000 (Cohen) blood feuds, some over a century old, are still in action. Supporting Evidence D confirms this claim: “The problem with blood feuds today is that people are using their own personal interpretations and motives to suit their needs” (Cohen). The legal Blood Feud system that was created in medieval societies to try and prevent blood feud from happening, ultimately made the vengeful killing by the victim’s family legal. The Christian Beowulf-poet condemns the system of blood feud, because it destabilizes and destroys societies, arguing instead for peaceful diplomacy like that of Queen Wealtheow. Grendel and his mother are acting within the blood feud system, therefore they cannot be blamed for the damage, but rather the legal blood…
