The State Fair of Texas, full of fried foods, car shows, live entertainment, and plenty of rides and games, was back in town in Dallas, Texas. Spanning from September 25th to October 18th, this was the fair’s 129th year to be alive and thriving. Starting in the 19th century, “American fairs and exhibitions reflected the nation’s agricultural-based economy.” The fair was initially a way to offer education, resources, and entertainment, and this is the way I used to see it. I loved going to the fair to enjoy all that it had to offer while enjoying time with my family. But now, I believe it is just a way for industry to make money, because it no longer holds the value it once held. While walking through the fair, I taking notes, and my family…
When most people think of the North Carolina State Fair many things come to mind such as richly smoked tin foil wrapped turkey legs, tipping, turning neon rides, driving around in circles looking for a place to park, and foods that no one would ever think to deep fry. When I think of the North Carolina State fair, I think of cold fall breezes, ammonia, sawdust, haircuts, and rushing around. My side of the State Fair is the side few see and many ignore. The State Fair for me normally begins…
Finally the day was Wednesday the 13th of August. I was so excited to be attending the Jackson County Fair with Ryan, my boyfriend, this year. But the one thing I wasn 't excited for was to ride The Ring Of Fire. This was the ride I gazed at from my house, three blocks away. Sixty feet high in the sky, round like a ferris wheel, passengers would sit in a caged style ride, that looped around clockwise and counterclockwise, and occasionally stops at the top. The fire engine red loop reminded…

I discovered 4-H at my school's Meet and Greet. 4-H had a display board explaining their purpose in the hallway. My project goals were altering…
“UC Davis Career and Internship Fair” This fall I started my journey with UC Davis. Davis is a really exciting, new and challenging chapter in my life. I moved from San Mateo, where I lived with my fiancée, to an apartment in Davis where I live on my own. Starting new school, and being surrounded by many new faces is not easy. I am not a person who can easily meet and connect with new people. UC Davis offers a lot of events for its students, some of them are very exciting like the…
I am in a club called 4-H. I have been in 4-H for 1 year, Iam starting my second year. I think that my first year going to fair was really awesome and fun. I got excited when I when to fair. 2 days before fair was the day that our projects (besides the animals) got judged. When me and my Mom drove to the fairgrounds I was excited and nervous at the same. When we got there we unloaded all the small stuff. We had to have some help unloading my big, heavy, wood compost box. There was at…
Over the last two weeks I have been preparing to show at the Coshocton County Fair as I have done for many years. At this fair I take two completely different animals that I raise and show; these animals are chickens and hogs. Normally, I do very well when I show my chickens. I have always excelled in my showmanship class. I have won my showmanship class five total years counting this year. I had always wanted to win the Supreme Poultry Showman title, and this year I accomplished that. Sine I…
He has helped me at the county fair, our 4-H banquet and he even checks on my dog when I am out of town for the weekend. I am thankful to have his help when it comes to these situations! According to Scales, Benson, Leffert, and Blyth (2000), self-esteem may be related to the act of helping others. This would explain what Codey believes to be his best asset: the ability to intellectually voice his opinion with reason when in a discussion. Codey is also passionate about helping others in…
Herbie Mann is the man we owe for this majestic picture: Herbie was born April 16th, 1930 to his two Jewish parents. His home was destined to be Brooklyn, New York City, NY. Herbie's full name is Herbert Jay Solomon. 1952 was the first time here recorded jazz flute for Mat Mathews. Herbie was a leader in jazz flute as there was not much popular jazz flutists at that time. Herbie quickly moved into latin jazz by adding conga drums. In 1958 hobbies when on tour and found out latin music wasn't for…
Nothing compares to the flamboyant peculiarity of fairs. These world-wide extravaganzas are among the most bizarre place in this world. Both State Fairs and County Fairs alike use their exotic foods, their new products, and their “cute” barn animals to draw in more people. Walking down the street, performers pop up every minute performing amazing feats of balance, agility, and magic. Even every once in awhile, a lucky guess at your age, weight, or birthday will amaze all the surrounding people.…
