The State Fair of Texas, full of fried foods, car shows, live entertainment, and plenty of rides and games, was back in town in Dallas, Texas. Spanning from September 25th to October 18th, this was the fair’s 129th year to be alive and thriving. Starting in the 19th century, “American fairs and exhibitions reflected the nation’s agricultural-based economy.” The fair was initially a way to offer education, resources, and entertainment, and this is the way I used to see it. I loved going to the fair to enjoy all that it had to offer while enjoying time with my family. Over the last two weeks I have been preparing to show at the Coshocton County Fair as I have done for many years. At this fair I take two completely different animals that I raise and show; these animals are chickens and hogs. Normally, I do very well when I show my chickens. Nothing compares to the flamboyant peculiarity of fairs. These world-wide extravaganzas are among the most bizarre place in this world. Both State Fairs and County Fairs alike use their exotic foods, their new products, and their “cute” barn animals to draw in more people.
