If an individual performs forearm rotation following an injury, they will likely feel a popping or clicking sensation in the area. This sensation could be due to the lack of stability, or an impingement in the area. As the TFCC is an area located in the ulnar side of the wrist, there are a number of muscles around it. Domire, Karabekmez, Duymaz, Rutar, Amadio, and Moran (2009), stated the extensor carpi ulnaris muscle is often impacted amidst this injury (p. 807). The extensor carpi ulnaris is impacted because this injury will likely cause tendons to rub on one another, and this muscle is generally in the location most effected. This could potentially lead to other injuries, such as tendinitis. Domire et. al. (2009) also stated the moment arm of the extensor carpi ulnaris muscle is increased, which increases the maximum amount of moment produced by the muscle (p. 807). If the length of moment is changed, the amount of force required to produce a movement would then also be altered, leading to a change in body mechanics. When an individual thinks TFCC is their possible injury, there are a number of ways either a doctor or therapist could potentially lead to a diagnosis.
