to start by taking apart the title of the poem. Weary according to Merriam-Webster dictionary means, “feeling or showing tiredness, especially as a result of excessive exertion or lack of sleep.” While you are weary you are weak and do not want to do anything. It is like after a long day of manual labor, you just want to lay in bed and not move at all. The “blues” in this context is talking about the music that the African-Americans use to make. It was a song of melancholy, and they sang about the hardship that they have been through. This poem is about a man that has become tired from singing the blues all the time. This is a longer poem that is a total of 35 lines. It is split into two different stanzas. The first stanza is composed of 22 lines. It is split into two parts with two different tones. The first is describing an African American in Harlem who is singing and playing the blues. The poem gives an example of what the blues are. It is a sad, late night in Harlem where people sing the blues. It starts off with saying, “Droning a drowsy syncopated tune, Rocking back and forth to a mellow croon, I heard a Negro play.” Droning is when a person hums a sound. A syncopated tune is a beat that displaces the accents meaning that the strong beats become weak and the weak beats become strong. Eventually, you have a whole group of people singing softly. This was a common thing for the African-American community because that was the only hope that they had. People use music as a…

Regarding my own needs of growth to include and successfully teach a student with ADHD, I can say that I would like to work on…

been interested in drama. I loved going to see plays, where alternate realities would form and come to life onstage, whisking the audience into a different world. It exhilarated me, and I wanted to be a part of it. However, I was not able to get involved in the theater arts until fifth grade, because my too-small-to-even-have-a-hospital community did not offer an acting program. When I was in sixth/seventh grade,my mom found that a new theater arts program had come to Eureka. It was called…

much ignorant questions to answer to and too little time to educate that ignorance, and sometimes you can frankly tell that they genuinely don 't care enough to want to be educated. But I’ll take the time to do so today, because knowing about where I came from very much will tell who I am. believe. Metaphor is often used to translate difficult to describe experiences and concepts into forms that those unfamiliar with these experiences will find easier to understand and more relatable, to make the indefinite definite and the intangible tangible. The purpose of metaphor and imagery in Yusef Komunyakaa’s poem “Blackberries” is to express the complicated and oftentimes confusing emotions which are associated with being a child of African American descent in the rural United States.…

I believe Washburn values diversity in many ways. There are many different kinds of people on campus and Washburn is just really friendly in general. Throughout campus, there are many people of different religion, culture, background, etc. Most won’t know this about others unless they take the time to meet somebody new or even meet them in a club here on campus. The most important part of the diversity statement to me is that they honor people of all kinds. They aren’t going to discriminate on…
