CONCLUSIONS: The purpose of this experiment was to find the concentration of the unknown base (NaOH) through a titration. In the experiment, it took 0.95 mL of NaOH with a concentration of 0.53 moles to neutralize 5.0 mL of a 0.100 M of HCl. In the expected result, the concentration of the NaOH was 0.50 moles. The percent error for the lab was only 6%, which means the lab had a fairly high accuracy. Differences between the expected results and the actual result would be caused by the sources of…

Buret was rinsed with water and NaOH, and followed by filling with NaOH solution made in the first week of lab. An acid of unknown concentration was prepared by the instructor and given for analysis. 25.00 mL of the acid was transferred into an Erlenmeyer flask using a volumetric pipette and 2-3 drops of phenolphthalein were added. The resulting solution was titrated with NaOH to achieve the faint pink endpoint and [unknown] was calculated according to the volume of NaOH used. The purpose of…

the endpoint of a solution. It also allows us to see a physical change, thus resulting in a more accurate measure of how much was titrated. Citric acid is a weak acid, making it best titrated by using a strong base, such as sodium hydroxide. The combination of a weak acid and a strong base would result in an endpoint that corresponds to the range of phenolphthalein indicator approximately a pH of eight. Image A Phenolphthalein is composed of C14H20O4, as shown in the image above and can…

This paper describes the process by which a three-component mixture was separated and identified. The mixture was separated with the aid of a separatory funnel and various solvents acids and bases. The compound was found to be comprised of meta-nitroaniline, naphthalene, and benzoic acid / 2-napthol. All three of them are organic compounds with melting points in the order they were listed 111-114, 79-82 and 121-122/121-123 °C. the percent yield of each component was also calculated at the end…
