going at a faster pace. Just like there are different types of of western there are different types of English. Jumping, racing, hunt seat, hack, dressage, and my favorite saddle seat. Enough about the different types of riding; What is saddle seat? You will have to keep reading. First off, what on earth is saddle seat? It is a little hard explaining if you don’t know anything about horses or aren’t familiar with the world of horse shows. According to horse trainer and horse show judge, David Mikosz. “ It is designed to allow the rider control and enjoyment of a spirited horse with fancy gaits. It combines the principles of dressage and the performance of equitation.” That made perfect sense to me, but probably not to any non-horse people. Dressage to put it in simple terms is basically making the horse dance and equitation is judged on the rider’s performance. The history behind how saddle seat came to be is very interesting. It goes way back to before the civil war, plantation owners wanted a saddle suited to the type of horse they were breeding. They wanted something comfortable but looked proper while out overlooking the plantations, then the saddle seat was born. Making it the true American way. Now that you have an idea of what saddle seat is, time to go to the foundations of the discipline. To even be considered a winner in the big shows you MUST have the foundations down. They are: Weight on the balls of your feet; toes up and in, heels down and out; bend in your…

When I saw my teammates watching and cheering for me on the sidelines, my nervousness disappeared. The ride was neither good nor bad, but it definitely was an experience paying extra…

This could be a merely a coincidence although highly unlikely being that most social media condones excessive spending. People argue that no one is forcing anyone to do or buy anything, so how can social media be harmful. The answer to that is peer pressure. People recognize the sheer size of social media, so for…

have ever been on. He stands above 16 hands, but he is a gentle giant. He’s covered with chestnut hair, with only his bald face pointing towards his Paint lineage. He has a long tail that almost kisses the ground and a freshly pulled mane. His walk is beautiful, and is even accompanied by an incredibly smooth trot, so unlike my own horse’s jolting gaits. I had agreed to ride him for my trainer, Kendra, at the first show we had competed in, over a month ago. This show was an extension of the…
