Kim 2 Shape & Structure The pseudostratified columnar epithelium is a special simple columnar cell that appears to be stratified. However, upon closer inspection of the cell, we see that it only has one layer instead of the multiple layers like it's stratified counterpart. The actual shape of the cell itself consists of basal, fusiform, and columnar cells with only the columnar cells reaching the apical(free) surface, this makes it appear stratified due to the other cells (basal & fusiform) not reaching the free surface and the nuclei of these cells appearing at different levels. The ciliated version of pseudostratified columnar have many little hair-like projections called cilia on the apical surface that move along different substances in…

Cell aging and its mechanism has been a hot research topic. A large number of research results indicated that the aging degree of animals is inversely related to the mitochondrial function. The function of mitochondria is becoming weaker and weaker with the increase of aging degree [1-6]. Mitochondria generate ATP through the process of oxidative phosphorylation, simultaneously reactive oxygen species. Early researchs has proven that oxidative damage caused by reactive oxygen species is one of…

Dr. Albee Cell Biology Section 11 18 September 2016 1. Describe the structure of CFTR. You must provide a written description for full credit. A picture on its own is not enough. A picture with a description is acceptable. (5 points) When cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator CTFR channels are functioning normally, they allow chloride ions to move outside of the cell. When the CTFR is mutated the chloride ions are unable to leave out of the cell channel which causes a thick coat of…

out. Small part of the cell which is called organelles, they have been adapted to carry out certain function and this can be more than one. Organelles are found in eukaryotes and they are always surrounded by protective membrane. Mitochondria which is the organelle it acts like a digestive system because it takes in all the nutrients, breaks them down into smaller molecules and it creates energy rich molecules for the cell. The biochemical processes of the cell are known as cellular respiration.…

Cells are extremely small, but vital to life and although they are extremely complex they have a common structure that enables different cells to perform different jobs. Cells make up every living organism. Mitochondria are a very important part of the cell because the mitochondria are what provide the cell with energy. In fact, a recent study by Boengler, Kosiol, Mayr, Schulz, and Rohrbach (2017) found “A decline in mitochondrial content and mitochondrial function plays a major role in…

do. This is due to differentiation the cells within each system become specialized for specific functions (Martini, & Bartholomew, 2). If something were to happen to one of your systems, your body’s other systems could not help because their cells do not have the ability to do what the other systems cells did (Kinworthy, 5). An example of three systems that are needed for your body to be at optimal health would be the tissues, cardiovascular, and Integumentary systems (Kinworthy, 5). All of the…

1.7 III (b) VEGF: VEGF is also known as vascular permeability factor (VPF) is an endothelial cell specific mitogen in in vitro and is the main factor responsible for vasculogenesis and angiogenesis in a variety of in vivo models. The gene transcripts level of VEGF is stimulated at the time of implantation because process of implantation occurs under hypoxic condition. In rodents, VEGF is involved during embryo–endometrium crosstalk by regulating endothelial cell proliferation and vascular…

Regeneration is the process of renewal or restoration of a body, part of the body or biological system after a wound or as a normal process. It is the process that makes the genomes, cells and organisms flexible to natural changes that cause disturbances or damage. All species are able to regenerate from bacteria to humans. Regeneration can be of two types: it can be complete when the new tissue is equal to the lost or incomplete tissue when the necrotic tissue presents fibrosis. Different…

the food to form chyme. Gastric juice consists of HCL and pepsin. HCL creates low pH in the stomach that denatures proteins thus peptide bonds get exposed and vulnerable to pepsin. Proteins are cut up into smaller polypeptides by pepsin. The gastric juice does not destroy the stomach cells because they are activated only when they reach the lumen. HCL composes of hydrogen and chloride ions that are secreted by parietal cells. Pepsin is released by chief cells in the inactive form, pepsinogen. It…
