Chip readers seem to be the new invention for credit cards. Almost all credit and debit cards have them now, but why? Why was this feature added to the card. Is it safer for the machine to read a chip than to read a swipe? Chip cards seem to be the evolution to our payment system to help with security and fraud. However what achievement do they fill? Payment options—such as cards and mobile devices—features with microprocessor chips that protect and store data. EMV has other names such as: "chip and PIN" or "chip and signature". Although what makes EMV different from a normal card? Is the swipe just not enough? EMV is there to offer protection and security.
