People are allowed to see the reaction and emotion in Dorothy’s face when she learns that a timer determines when she will die. The lighting in this scene also helps set an almost evil impression in the witch’s castle. Down lighting is used the most in this scene to create shadows on the witches face to help create and evil look to her. Also they used the camera movement tracking as seen in the scene before to focus on a certain character. They use these devices to help infiltrate the evil side of the witch. One of the very lasts scenes Dorothy finally reaches the Emerald City of Oz and continues on to go see the Wizard himself. As they are directed into the castle of the Wizard they enter this room that is very dark and also spooky. In the matter of seconds, the Wizard himself appears to them in a powerful way. Several different sound effects were used to infiltrate the sense of how powerful the Wizard actually is. Smoke, fire and lightening sounds were used as he is talking to Dorothy and her friends to also intimidate them in a way. However they also use mid-shot and close-up to allow the viewers to again get the full effect of the scene and allow them to see the emotion and reaction from Dorothy as she meets the Wizard. Camera angles also play a role in this scene as they use high and low angles.…
