Throughout the piece, the delicate balances of romanticism and classicism, of virtuosity and restraint, and of darkness and warmth are maintained and showcased. Beginning with the mighty and tragic Maestoso, the angular first theme is introduced by the orchestra alone. Harmonies twist and intertwine, weaving…
noticed a large amount of chairs on stage as I found this quite interesting. As it was about to begin, a large amount of musicians wearing black appeared on the stage and were performing a small warmup. As performers, they were a guest group. Once the lights were turned on and centered on the performers, three conductors were welcomed to the stage. Soon after that, music pieces started to play out. For the first piece of music, it started it off with a loud pitch with a fast tempo and resembled…
Peter and the Wolf was written in 1936 by Sergei Prokofiev as a children's story. This work includes both music and text. The symphony is the accompaniment to the narrator, who reads the spoken parts during the work. Prokofiev was born in Sochovka, Russia on April 23, 1891. The music Prokofiev is most famous for, is the music he composed for Peter and the Wolf. Prokofiev’s composing days began during his youth, eventually leading him to study music at the St. Petersburg Conservatory. In 1918,…
Over the summer I listened to the music used in two ballets shown during the Here/Now Festival, and which will also be performed during the 2017-18 season. As a non-musician, I perceive two thematic strands in the first of the four pieces from Dan Deacon’s America to be utilized in The Times Are Racing. Let’s call them A and B. The pattern in this section is ABA. However, the same music is used in the fourth and final section of the album (and ballet); but the pattern there is BA. This A strand…

There are three main types of orchestral programme music, symphonic poem also, known as the tone poem, the concert overture, and the programme symphony. The symphonic poem is musical piece written for symphonic orchestra, usually as a single long movement. Richard Strauss is one of the well-known composers who wrote many descriptive symphonic poems. One of these is Til Eulenspiegel Op. 28 (1894 - 1895) which tells of a mischievous character of German legend. Strauss uses a musical theme to…
Music is my passion, I appreciate all music genres, but I favour country music. I enjoy the simplistic instrumentation as well as the timbre of country vocalists combined with the minimalist dynamic effects and sound processing that is applied to recordings, providing country music with a natural and raw sound, which I hope to replicate in the music I create throughout my studies and career. I hope to have a career in the music industry, and studying for a degree in music production is the most…
In Copland’s “Piano Variations” the piece is quite simple but darkly colored with 20 variations and a coda, giving a sense of dramatization in continuous variation form, which were originally played on a piano and are now placed into the orchestra which gives it a more lively and colorful perspective on the piece. It opens up in heavy, ominous manner but then more into the piece the chords are struck heavily to give this sensation of engrossment. You’re captivated by everything that is thrown at…

Nothing gives me more satisfaction than playing the clarinet; Evan hearing it gives my pleasure. I have been involved in a performance where you play jazz at heritage landing. At age 12 I realized that I belonged in front of an audience. I started to give demonstrations to younger kids to help out Mrs.Lawrence (My former band teacher and friend). My Friends and I have had fun doing such a thing. It was 7th grade for me and I was offered to play a part in the Muskegon Jazz band. Mrs. Lawrence…
