All in all, Johnsonville was a sausage plant that had been burnt down causing the employees to think that they were going to have to go into unemployment, however, something very different happened. Employees continued to receive full salaries and even monthly bonuses. All the employees had to do was “volunteer at local organizations, take training classes at the local technical college or work in other Johnsonville facilities” (Gallagher, 2016). These were three understandable conditions for employees to keeping their full salary and bonuses while the plant was being rebuilt. This benefitted more than one stakeholder by still paying the employees when the facility was down. “Strategic philanthropy links corporate resources and knowledge to address broader social, consumer, employee, and supplier problems and needs, cause-related marketing ties an organization’s products directly to a social concern” (Ferrell et al., p 316). To elaborate, consumers were still able to buy as much sausage as they wanted, the community was bettered and made safer, and the company was able to keep its employees on the payroll and turn a profit. The underlying issue why people were boycotting was due to the fact that “Johnsonville's founder, Ralph Stayer, has personally given at least $14,000 to Scott Walker's campaigns since 2005 and more to other Republicans in Wisconsin and beyond” (Nabilcy, 2011).
