I think that the author R.J. Palacio chose the song Beautiful Things for the Miranda section because Miranda alway say that Auggie is beautiful and is like a brother to her. I think that because on page 165 it says “ I've known Auggie since I was six years old. I've watched him grow up. I've played with him. I've watched all six episodes of Star Wars for his sake, so I could talk to him about the aliens and bounty hunters and all that. I'm the one that gave him the astronaut helmet he wouldn't take off for two years. I mean, I've kind of earned the right to think of him as my brother.” If I was Auggie I would think of Miranda as a sister because she got me the astronaut helmet that I wore for 2 years. I think that this part “No one's calling for me at the door, An unpredictable won't bother anymore, And silently gets harder to ignore” of Beautiful Things also fits perfect in the Miranda section. I think that because on page 164 it says “After the divorce, I hardly ever saw my father. And my mother acted stranger than ever. It's not that she was unstable or anything: just distant.” Miranda never really had anyone “calling for her at the door” because her parents were divorced. Miranda was very independent. When it says “Look straight ahead There's nothing left to see What's done is done This life has got its hold on me Just let it go What now can never be” in the song Beautiful Things I feel like it was perfect for the camp lies chapter. I think that because on page 165 it…
