    Everyday life requires facing many obstacles that get in ones way of achieving their own goals. Everyone has their own unique problems that they have to overcome, which involves them putting in some work. Challenges are an important part of trying to achieve a goal; they help out on whether it is worth going for that goal or not. Overcoming obstacles such as fear, doubt from others or even self-doubting is an important part of being able to achieve a goal. The individual has to have a positive attitude towards what they want; anything can be done when having a positive attitude towards something. In Edgar Albert Guest’s poem, “It Couldn’t Be Done”, the author employs words and phrases that motivate people not to give up on their goals no matter what others have to say and to overcome challenges that get in their way of reaching their ultimate goal. Edgar Albert Guest used particular words and phrases to explain that anything can be done if the individual just tries. There is an “it” (1) mentioned in the first stanza which symbolizes the activity or thing that other people claim that cannot be done. Despite the negativity others receive, there will always still be a chance to try it anyways, no one can tell anybody what they can or cannot do.
