    1600 acres for recreational activities available to each resident (Conroy, 2016, Lecture 3) This feature was uncommon at the time in urban environments. The plans included scenic designed streets and decreasing the use of right angles, which allowed for a more open feel than what people felt in the cities (Conroy, 2016, Lecture 3). With transportation rapidly expanding, especially the railroad, people were more free to live outside of the city. Riverside can be seen as the model for suburbanization. Many aspects of Riverside such as open space and the separation of pedestrian and vehicle act as inspirations for many other communities (Faiks, 2001). The Garden City movement was a motivation for the suburb known as Radburn, New Jersey. Ebenezer Howard was the founding father of this movement in the 1890’s which concentrated on sufficient, compact, residential communities (Conroy, 2016, Lecture 6-7). The promoters of Radburn included Clarence Stein and Henry Wright of the Regional Planning Association of America. This community was privately funded through the City Housing Corporation and included superblocks, separation of pedestrians and cars, and parks as backbones (Birch, 1980) Although Radburn had shortcomings such as exclusionary planning and home association control issues, it did leave a legacy (Conroy, 2016, Lecture 6-7).
