to her because of people thinking men are superior to women. The language that we use today does not help the fact that men think that either. People do however think language is not that important but instead lets try working on other inequality issues. “But the words we use can also reinforce current realities when they are sexist (or racist or heterosexist)”(300). Kleinman writes. Our choice of words will shape how we think whether is positive or negative. Words make you think different for example if someone congratulates you by saying “you did well” or someone saying “Great job you did very well” chances are you will react better to the second one. Same as calling a guy a “boy” or a “man”. A philosopher by the name Douglas R. Hofstadter did a study in 1986. In this study instead of saying freshman, chairman, and things like that he had people say white at the end instead of man. In his study “people of color would hear ‘all whites are created equal’ and be expected to feel included”(300). Kleinman claims that some women wish to be a part of “the higher-status group: men”(300). People say women are apart of everything but if they truly were then we would have more words to make women feel like they actually were apart of things. Nowadays women go around calling themselves girls instead of women. One reason for this could be that they want to feel young and when they hear woman it makes them feel old. A guy in one of Kleinman’s class was in a frat that…

Big Bang Theory on television. Those thirty minute airings had my whole living room roaring. We loved how awkward Sheldon was and how Leonard was always chasing pretty Penny. It was not until recently that I have noticed how misogyny is portrayed throughout the show. As I watch the episodes back I still laugh: however, I cannot help but to realize how the women, in particular Penny and Amy, are characterized throughout each episode. For those who are not familiar, The Big Bang Theory is an…

Many things happened during the Progressive Era, and of course everyone is going to have their point of view on them. Zinn went really into detail about every single topic that he talked about, Foner on the other hand sort of skimmed through the topics but still covered them. Zinn loved to talk about the radicals during this time period as where I feel that Foner seemed to talk more from an outsiders view as where Zinn sort of tried to get us to see where the socialist and radicals were coming…
