Mary Anning was considered to be the first female paleontologist and the greatest fossil finder. She overcame a lack of formal education to emerge as one of the foremost authorities on fossils. When she was twelve year old, she found the skeleton of one of the first Ichthyosaurus, a giant marine reptile that lived in the early time of Jurassic period in Asia and Europe. She discovered more Ichthyosaurus fossils and also many other important discoveries as an amateur fossil collector in the first half of the nineteenth century. Her findings were key to the development paleontology as a scientific discipline in Britain. She was the first recognised by the Geological Society of London, and credited with the first discovery. She was credited with the first discovery of a complete Plesiosaurus skeleton. Mary Anning was one of the earliest fossil hunters to identify these prehistoric fossils, and she shared her specimens and impressive knowledge about them with scientists at the time. What made Anning discoveries so important to the history of science, is that they provided evidence that forced scientists to imagine, like De la Beche, an ancient world different from our own, and so to begin to think of evolution and how it might occur. Anning’s prehistoric discoveries inspired geologist Henry De la Beche (1830) to paint the first popular portrayal of prehistoric life. They provided evidence that was central to the development of new ideas about the history of the Earth. It…

frontrunner of the Republican Primary candidates. It’s just a fact that in most cases, Democrats do better during a campaign when the public’s main concerns are on social issues. Republicans fare much better when that concern shifts towards worry of war or terrorism. A major ISIS terrorist event occurred in Paris, France towards the beginning of the Republican Primary. Once again, Trump shocks the world by responding with a controversial plan of banning all Muslims from entering the United…

‘No.’”. This statement may be true for some liberals, but Schlichter speaks as though this is a fact that is true in all situations. Schlichter is using this statement as if it is logos when in reality it falls into being more pathos. David Kopel expresses in his article, “Trust The People: The Case Against Gun Control.” on the CATO Institute website, his view on gun control, “Gun control is based on the faulty notion that ordinary American citizens are too clumsy and ill-tempered to be trusted…

myself. I think that what we can do to fix this problem, is to just inform others. If we allow others to form their own opinion, rather than to just agree or regurgitate what their parents or relatives say, than maybe we can make a difference. The idea that immigration is bad is an outdated and irrelevant opinion. By talking and raising awareness of the great things that immigration can bring, we can make a change in our lives and open our eyes to new culture and world views. Because I am not…

How To Be “The Donald” Have you ever wondered what it would be like to hold the highest office in our land? The prestige, the honor, and the respect that comes with the job is what 43 men have had the chance to experience. And, this year, it was explicit that our nation would have the first women president to take the oath of the presidency. But, there is one orange, beautifully haired man, who refuses to let this transpire and is leading the charge to the democratic frontrunner, Hillary…

Both George Orwell’s allegorical tale, Animal Farm and Jimmy Fallon’s comedic clip of Donald Trump employ satire to demonstrate that some people are unfit to lead because they use fear and terror to maintain power. Orwell believes that any society where leaders have absolute power would fail because inevitably leaders use power for their own benefit. He criticises the failures of the Russian revolution and the subsequent totalitarian regime to provide strong and fair leadership and to establish…

approach to rebuilding the 2010 defense budget under President Obama. I contend that Sec. Gates was an influential strategic leader who demonstrated five dimensions of meta-leadership because he built established trust among senior military and civilian leadership, was inclusive of Congress and the Media, and could lead across multiple domains which enabled him to make a lasting strategic impact to our country. In December 2006, when Sec. Gates first came to the Pentagon, his number one…

others (p. 4). Our society is a mixture of different nationalities. To be an American is to live, love, and cherish this amazing country. An American is my cousin, a biracial analyst, an army soldier, born in Puerto Rico but is fighting in Iraq, or my friend, a Hispanic, married to an African-Chinese man, and their son, a multiracial, future firefighter. An American is the reigning Ms. America, yet, cannot represent America in the Miss Universe Pageant. I find it idiosyncratic that we…

One of the great things about soccer is that it is not a school-sanctioned sport. To me this said that I could play another season of soccer with my friends from Socastee and Waccamaw without the normal High School rivalry between these schools. Year after year, the schools pulled pranks on each other, sometimes nothing big, but sometimes something big. I remember my freshman year, when a few guys I knew went over to Socastee and painted their skylight in their commons. When the sun shined into…
