Diet Coke and Mentos eruption

I am trying to get to know my project of how the type of soda affects the soda “fountain” that it would create when a Mento is added. I am also trying to know what I should be doing. To do this, I have found various websites that help me understand my project better. First off, I found a website called Mental Floss, with the heading of “Why do Diet Coke and Mentos React” to figure out why Diet Coke erupts with a Mento. The eruption is so powerful, you can create a soda rocket from it. The ingredients in the Diet Coke and the Mentos along with the structure of the Mento allow for the eruption to happen. It happens because of carbon dioxide bubbles exploding out extremely quickly. If the reaction is fast enough, then you can end up with a great soda fountain. If a smoother Mento is used, then you wouldn’t get quite the same reaction. But since the Mento has holes around it, the Mento is the best choice for the eruption. The bubbles will continue to rise, and that will happen for a while. The gum arabic and gelatin ingredients of the Mentos, combined with the potassium benzoate, sugar, or aspartame in diet sodas, also help in creating the large eruption.
