    list. I never thought I would someday live here. During my adolescent years in Germany I always dreamed of getting a college education, although no one in my family had done so. Looking back, I wish I would have had more guidance as how to continue after high school. Initially I wanted to apply at an art school, but the student career counselor had told me the application deadline for admission had already expired. An alternative choice was a language related course. The counselor advised me to first apply for an administrative course, since those were supposed to be a good foundation for language related fields. Therefore, I applied for different administrative offered in our area and got accepted for a 3 year vocational course with Deutsche Telekom in Heidelberg, Germany in coalition with the local vocational business school Willy-Hellpach-Schule. It was a marvelous experience and while I learned an abundance of new skills this was not supposed to be the end of my career path, but life threw me a major curve ball. At the end of the 3 years of training I had reached one of those infamous crossroads in life when I met a US soldier who was stationed in Heidelberg and we ended up getting married. My plans for a higher education were temporarily put on hold. To do my part financially, I took an administrative job at the city hall in the small town of Leimen processing passport applications and registrations while occasionally helping out with translations in the immigration…
