When Pharrell first started producing music, solo projects were not something in his thoughts, nor were they thoughts in Erick’s mind. Pharrell blended into a duo that called themselves the Neptunes, then later produced music with a group by the name of N.E.R.D just as Erick works as an intricate piece of the Flatbush Zombies. In the most recent years, Pharrell Williams has become a house hold name and an important one in the music world. Pharrell’s work has been shown in the soundtracks and scores of movies such as Despicable Me, Despicable Me 2, and the upcoming movie Hidden Figures. Pharrell’s music crashed the charts and sat at #1 for weeks at a time with songs such as “Happy” and “Blurred Lines”. Although Erick Arc has yet to breakthrough on the radio, he recently produced the soundtrack to a new superhero series called Black Panther which is speculated to appear on TV within the next few months. In their most recent album releases; Pharrell’s GIRL and Flatbush Zombies’ 3001: A Laced Odyssey, there are many similarities in the way the composers create their art. Both of the instrumentals are polyphonic and layered. There are always many instruments playing simultaneously and there is very little silence within their work. Each piece is woven within one…

honored to have spoken about it. There was an immense amount of disappointment, but excitement all in one year: Simon Cowell left American Idol and broke my heart, Despicable Me and Inception (two of my favorite movies then and now) were released, and so much more. At the time these events occurred, my grandparents, who we call Baba and Dzedo, were visiting for a few weeks as they always do during the springtime. Due to the…
