    British author Neil Gaiman was born on November 10th, 1960 in Portchester, United Kingdom is best known as a sci-fi and fantasy writer. His father was a company director and his mother was a pharmacist. Since his mother is Jewish, Mr.Gaiman practices Judaism. When he was a child, Gaiman had read comic books and normal books, at one point he had read through all of the children’s books in his local library. Prior to being 16, Gaiman read comic books, though stopped because he felt that he had outgrown them. On March 14, 1985, Mr. Gaiman married his wife Mary, and has two daughters with her.By the time he had graduated high school, Gaiman had decided to become an American comic book writer, because he felt that comics had become redundant and geared more towards kids (Authors). In the Modern genres of American comic books, Gaiman had helped to create a Renaissance alongside the likes of Art Speigelman (best known for his Maus series). A recurring theme in Gaiman’s books and his comic books are Myths, with books such as Anansi Boys and American Gods (Authors). While working on his comics, DC Comics asked Gaiman to revitalize one of their major characters. As a way to gain notoriety, DC Comics suggested that Gaiman prepare by writing his own comic book series first, as a consequence The Sandman comics were born (St. James).
