Gerard Jones is an American author and a comic book writer about media. Jones argued in his essay “Violent Media Is Good for Kids” to discuss several good reasons that violent media is beneficial to kids. In Jones’s essay, he talked about many good reasons that led me to be certain of his reasons why violent media are helpful to kids. Jones believes violent media assistances children to be more courageous to face their obstacles. Jones gave a very good example of his son, who was not able to play with his peers at school, because he was afraid to climb a tree with them. Jones knew he had to help his son to be brave enough to climb the tree, so he read him old Tarzan comics a fictional character that appears very strong and fearless to help his son overcome his fear of climbing a tree. On paragraph 6 Jones stated “For two weeks he lived in them. Then he put them aside. And he climbed the tree”. Jones’s son was finally able overcome his fear about the bloody Tarzan comic. Reading the successful story of Jones’s son being bold enough to climb the tree is definitely a good example that I find convincing about Jones argument of violent media being helpful to kids. The example of his son shows that kids who are afraid to do something are just in need of an extra motivation for them to be courageous enough to overcome it. In addition, Jones also argued that kids who are expose to violent media are able to act out their rage without being ashamed or afraid. The society has…
