“Parenting gone wrong” is a phrase used to describe a child’s bad behaviour when he or she does something unexpected. Many call this phrase harsh because one can never control children. If children behave in a certain way later on in life it can’t be blamed on their upbringing, but does it really have nothing to do with bad parenting when a child feels abandoned and feels that they have been forced to do something they never wanted to? The story “Next term, we’ll mash you”, which is written by Penelope Lively, focuses on how the bond between parents and children can affect a child’s life. The story is about a young boy whose parents take him to a boarding school where he is threatened by one of the boys. The story takes place in a wealthy environment in England which can be seen in the first paragraph: “The trim Sussex landscape, flowed past the windows: cows, white-fenced fields, highly priced period houses.” (p. 1 ll.2-4). It appears to be the rich country life where everything is perfect. This can be understood from the white-fenced fields since is makes sure that everything is where it should be. Nothing is creating chaos to the illusion of the perfect place as it is seen in paintings. Furthermore the area is described with: “white gates and high, dark, tight-clipped hedges” (p. 1 l. 18). This indicates that the people who live there are upper-class and important because surrounding a house with tight-clipped hedges indicates that one would like some privacy. Even the…

I had studied the extent of many different majors, I considered many backup options, and I questioned what I thought I would enjoy, love or hate. In May of 2013 I felt like I knew all the answers – that being Massachusetts Maritime Academy. I would enjoy life at sea, I could make a matchless salary, and all while visiting different ports around the world. I got the…

The Bucksbaum Early Entrance Academy is a program that accelerates high school students past their junior or senior year directly to college. What this really means is that the members of this culture are a bunch of children who really wanted to get out of high school. We all were a part of the gifted programs in our schools, and we all decided we were too smart for that. Apparently the University agreed, so we can all be considered at least academically ready for college. At some level, we…

The call to meditation and self-reflection in spiritual practices often becomes convoluted, evident in a radical interior withdrawal into selfish privacy, while with exteriority, it leads to an uncompromising dependence on the empirical reality. In the academic world, radical interiority often develops when scholars withdraw from the world without intention of returning. A sense of intellectual and spiritual ego arises from this withdrawal, creating an interesting dichotomy between Gottlieb’s…

To reach a conclusion I will assess the most recent Ofsted report (2014), the Behaviour Policy (2015) and my own reflections on my experience of Academy A. Though the latest Ofsted report (2014) does not explicitly refer to positivity when evaluating Academy A’s behaviour management, there is a sense of positivity reflected in the report. They describe it as a “rapidly improving academy” (Ofsted, 2014) where the Headteacher has “drive, determination and high expectations”. I agree that, from my…

Challenging the Inclusion of Intersectionality in the Academy Introduction With this paper, I will explore the inclusion of intersectionality in the academy. This was the seventh week out of twelve in my internship. This was another great week that was insightful and helpful to furthering my knowledge of the criminal justice system. I was sick on Monday which is why there is no event for that day. The log ends on the following Monday because I wanted to keep the string of five-day work weeks present in my reports. I am only mentioning this to make sure that there is no confusion in that part of the report. This week, was the week of the citizen’s…
