    ‘The Death of Marilyn Monroe’ by Edwin Morgan is a thought provoking poem with deals with the tragedy surrounding Marilyn Monroe’s death in the 1950’s. Morgan discuses the incident and all the different aspects of her life that contributed to her tragic downfall and through his clever use figurative language by the use of techniques such as word choice, imagery and personification he captivates and maintains our interest throughout the poem. Morgan blames everyone but Marilyn Monroe herself for taking her own life which stirs up different emotions at different stages of the poem as the reader is faced with the realisation that Monroe was a victim of the American dream. At the beginning of the poem Morgan shows that he does not really understand who is to blame for Monroe’s death, this is shows through his rhetorical questions: “What innocence? Whose guilt?
