    Gang risk is usually associated with the following regional characteristics. (Inside Prison, unknown). Increasing gang presence over the last few years. Existence of gangs already in the region. Number of single-parent families. High proportions of youth and young adults. According to the Estimated Gang risk index Nashville Tennessee has a score of 1.9. With the average index resulting in 7.9 Nashville has a relatively low amount of gang activity compared to other similar regions. Although the demographics of Nashville and Davidson County is prodominely White and under the age of 65. (Inside Prison, unknown). The number of single-parent families are 27.2%. There is an increasing amount of gang activity with a known number of 500 gang members. Gang related crimes rose by 25% in the state of Tennessee in 2011. (The Tennessean, 2012). More than doubling the number of crimes since 2005. Gang members are migrating from urban areas to rural communities to recruit new gang members, expand their drug distribution areas, and form new alliances and collaborate with rival gang members and organizations for profit and influence.
