The purpose of basketball is not just to be the best and have the most titles; it should be meant for players to develop integrity and try to set an example for the next generation. But all these characteristics that develop as an athlete progresses are not acquired through college basketball. Former NBA Commissioner David Stern, championed “Article X”--also known as the one-and-done rule; which forced high school ballers to wait a year before they are eligible for the draft (Hughes). The rule was created so players could easily transition into the new basketball environment. Supporters of the rule believe players are not physically ready and cannot handle the insane amounts of cash (Carter).
