Cub Scout

the first time. I was a cub scout then and was super nervous. I was always super cautious and wary of dangers hiding behind the corner. I thought that something would jump out and scare me, or drag me to my doom. I felt more comfortable being at home versus being in the wilderness, where I felt exposed to the unknown and maybe the wrath of mother nature. Home made me feel safe, and in those days camping tended to make me uneasy due to fears and the unfamiliar activity of camping in the wilderness. I was also homesick, and I never thought that being away from home would have a huge impact on my experience as a little cub scout in those days. Being away from home did not help my fear of severe weather. I always had a constant fear of lightning and tornadoes, which did not help the fact that I was attempting to sleep in a lightning storm at around midnight one night. As a kid I never went to summer camps or stayed at a friends house for an extended period of time. I had friends in Cub Scouts but I never joined. But around the third grade, I decided I wanted to join the Cub Scouts. I started Cub Scouts during the fifth grade, so I only had one year as a Cub Scout until I would crossover into becoming a Boy Scout.
