    Railroad crossings are very simple things. It is sad that any people are ever injured on them. If people would just follow a couple easy rules then there would be close to no accidents. Here are a couple things that happen at railroad crossings. First off, in the Utah driving handbook it says that you always need to slow down when you come to a railroad crossing. If red lights are flashing, bells are ringing, and the gate is down a train is coming and you need to stop. In that same book it says that when this happens, you need to stop at least 15 feet away, but not more than 50 feet from the closest rail. You can then go when the gate comes back up.
