Greetings classmates, A 3 mile run from my house is a historic place that was settled by the Timucua Indians, French and Spanish explorers. The run takes place on mostly shaded sidewalk with some dappled sunlight. Occasionally, I will have my iPhone with me for music and tracking purposes but sometimes I don’t bring it. There are rarely other runners when I run. The run there and back is a time of reflection to gain focus and clarity about the coming events. There is a Theodore Roosevelt Trail…

Arrived at 6:28. Today our PT was individual runs. The weather was cool, but not cold, and was thus perfect for running outdoors. I tried to keep up with Duck and Steele, and managed to do so for the first half fo the run. My goal is always to make it to the halfway point without having to slow down to a walk. I achieved this goal, but was feeling short of breath. I shortened my walking stints as short as possible, and only did so twice. As usual, I finished strong with a sprint to the finish.…

Going to State for cross country is one of my favorite things that I have done in my athletic high school career. It took hard work to get there and when we finally did that it was eventful and fun and was one of the best trips that I have ever had. It started out way back in June when a group of girls got together and went for a run. At that time we only ran about 3-4 miles or so, but by the middle of the cross country season we were running up to 6 miles everyday. We trained all throughout…

My story is going to be about my first Cross Country race. I know it’s not that exciting, but it was for me. I met lots of people that day and I made some friends with the other team. Before the race I wallked from the High School to the Elementary. I walked with with Spencer and we talked a little bit. Once I got there I went to the bathrooms close to the concession stand. I changed there, left my stuff at the concessions stand, brought a water bottle with me, and I jogged to the course. Once…

At eleven years old, I stood in the stands with the rest of family, watching my dad cross the finish line of his first marathon. With pain and exhaustion clearly shown on his face, I was absolutely positive that he was insane. How could he have spent the last few months training for this? However, he wasn’t the only one who was crazy, I had seen people crawl, on their hands and knees, just to make through that race. I didn’t understand why all of these people were willing to do this to…

I have always been fast at running. In middle school, I would always be the first to finish the mile long run for my Physical Education class. At that time, I often ran the mile in seven minutes flat, always being at least thirty seconds ahead of every other student. It was the same outcome in high school as a freshman; however, that was not the case later on. As a sophomore, I ran the mile in seven minutes, but another sophomore, George, would run it in six minutes and fifty seconds. I wondered…

“Runners to your marks”. I take two strides forward along with all the other runners that will be trying to outrun me, as I am trying to do the same. Standing out in the hot baking sun my heart pounds violently in my chest, my breath becomes deeper to calm my nerves that flood my brain, beads of sweat run down my sun baked face and plummet to the ground. Walking up to the waterfall line, I hear nothing but my heart pounding in my ears like two timpani’s in an instrumental band. Then the race…

The Track Meet I wake up to the loud beeping of my alarm, slowly roll out of bed, and take in a quick, sharp, breath. I’m sore. Why did I say yes to going to the gym? I just knew it would be a bad idea. Today is the school track meet and I am running the 100 meter dash. I slowly stand up and get dressed into my new Tarwater shirt and shorts, pull my soft blonde hair up into a high bun, and put my shoes on. I walk out of my room feeling numb from the waist down and ask my dad if I could borrow…

There I was, running through the abyss of the mossy Montana forest. All my dreams had come true. As I moved further into the forest, I reflected on my life. After years of intense studying and training, I managed to make it into Montana State University. Daily I’d find myself running 10 or so miles on the college’s varsity cross country team. I challenged my mind through the advanced programs, and had A’s in every single one of them. Every night and day for 6 years, I worked myself to extremes.…
