I agree with Roger Ebert's review on the “The Dark Knight”. The only thing I don’t agree with is the four star rating. This is because the movie had phenomenal acting, beautiful visual and special effects and an incredible script that was written by the director himself Christopher Nolan. This is why I don’t agree with the 4 star rating. In my opinion it should be 5. Throughout the review Roger talks about Heath Ledger does a great Job playing the Joker and telling his side of things. Roger…
Among elusively indefinable terms vital to further understanding literature is the great white whale of literary merit. Its definition has been disputed, contemplated, and stretched to the vaguest of proportions until it no longer serves as a helpful tool in determining whether a work is, in fact, of literary merit. Its relative subjectivity comes into play when attempting to define such a term; what is meritorious to some may not be so to others. The variety of works considered exemplary does…
Every year there is always a film that has high expectations and fails to live up to the hype. However, this review is not over one of those depressing movies. This particular film was not supposed to make it this big. Many, when they heard of the corrupts of this movie, believed that is was dumb, made no sense and should not of been produced. This movie is known as Mr. Smith Goes to Washington. When reading the title one can understand what the critics were saying. What kind of film writer…

A critical lens is a perspective that the reader uses to examine a piece of literature. Different lenses look for unique details and aspects in the text, and help the reader find new information that may have never been discovered had the piece only been read through one single perspective. The archetypal lens is a critical viewpoint which allows the reader to identify places in a story which follow or deviate from universal patterns, also known as archetypes. Hamlet, the Prince of Denmark, is a…
Prior to reading Authority and American usage written by David Wallace by the title alone I had low expectation on how much I would enjoy the read but I grew to have a lot of interest in the reading. In the reading David Wallace raised the issues between Prescriptivism perception and descriptivism perception, as he goes back in history dates as far back as biblical times up to the present day observing how the English language has been constantly changing since the beginning of the English…
It has been said that literary criticism started before Plato, but he is known the bedrock or the womb that birth other literary criticism. It is the foundation of the building called literary theory or criticism. He prescribes what a good literature or poetry should be. Plato’s philosophy of idealism – the existence of two worlds; the ideal world which is perfect and the visible world which is an imitation of the ideal. This idea criticizes art as an imitation of an imitation. And as a result,…
Literary Canon The literary Canon should not be abolished, but simply modified and modernized to suit the changes that have occurred in the world. The Canon was usually associated with the literary work of white Europeans, but after the 1980s changes occurred as the work of African Americans and women became more stage centered sparking a debate about the canon. The core of the canon comes from the literary works of the 19th century and that core should remain constant as the foundation, but it…
My personal theory of religious education is the biblical family centered education. 1. The purpose of religious education 1) Deliver the biblical values through family life The Bible mirrors every dimension of the world, so the biblical values can help people form constructive and balanced characteristics to be whole persons. However, the biblical values will not be fully transmitted by only teaching in the church on a limited time because values are not knowledge to get by just teaching.…
The literary aspect of interpretation plays a crucial role in shaping the biblical narrative, but it is overlooked and almost nonexistent. • Conventional biblical scholarship is limited. o Example: the story of Judah and Tamar. At first glance, this story seems to be rudely inserted in the middle of the drama of Joseph. Upon further inspection, the use of a single word (“recognize” in this case) ties chapters 37 and 38 of Genesis together – something that is missed without considering literary…
