Pre-coordination pertains to creating one code to represent two concepts. For example, one code to represent dry weight. In contrast, post-coordination pertains to creating two codes to represent the two different concepts: one code for dry, and another code for weight. Both pre-coordination and post-coordination generate some problematic issues. For example, healthcare providers employing the post-coordination approach must use two codes when entering codes into the EHR system. However, they might forget to make this modification.
