    In the story, Where the Red Fern Grows Billy is a normal kid who loves to hunt. He always wanted a beautiful set of Coon Hounds. He worked for two years straight just so he could get these beautiful coons and he finally got them. He worked so hard with his coons and got so many rewards on the way. In the end, it made sense that with hard work would come rewards. As Colin Powell quoted “A dream doesn't become reality through magic; it takes sweat, determination, and hard work.” In the beginning of the story, Billy puts in hard work for his dogs. Throughout page 38-39 Billy finally gets his pups. This is a reward for is hard work he gave when he put in the effort for 2 years to get the pups. That he would soon work with and be known over the Ozarks. Soonly after Billy is known for hunting and his grandfather is known for bragging about Billy and his dog's hunting career. Billy shows hard work and success on page 85-96. When Billy’s dogs chase a coon into a tree and he doesn't know how to get it down. He tries cutting the tree down but after the second day his hands are torn and his energy is drained. He figures out a plan to keep the coon in the tree but the next day his joints are tight and he is sore. His hands were torn to splinters and he wanted to quit. He told his dogs and they were upset they didn't want him to quit. So he dug down deep inside and finally the tree was cut and he got the coon. So with his hard work gave him the reward of a beautiful coon. Billy…
