The song Concrete Angel, was written by Martha McBride. This song portrays the story of a young girl who is being abused at home. The main theme in this song is that the abuse goes unnoticed. I believe the song was written to demonstrate society's apathy in calling attention to the ugly things in life. Throughout the song, people notice but do nothing. Many situations almost identical to the one portrayed in the song happen in real life. In this song several poetic techniques are used. Right away when looking at the lyrics I could see the metaphors and similes that were present throughout the song. There are many sound techniques used in the song Concrete Angel written by Martha McBride. While looking at the lyrics of the song I immediately noticed rhyme and slant rhyme. An example of rhyme in this song is in the first stanza when it states, “She walks to school with the lunch she packed / nobody knows what she's holding back / wearing the same dress she wore yesterday / she hides the bruises with the linen and lace”. In this stanza the last words, packed and back, which are in lines one and two rhyme. Another sound technique found in this song is slant rhyme. This technique can also be found in the first stanza when it says “Wearing the same dress she wore yesterday / she's hides the…

    Concrete Angel Analysis

My main goal is to use sound to convey the mood of a scene and to manipulate the audience’s emotions. Another important scene in my film is the flashback of the little girl’s life before type 1 diabetes. In order to create a lot of emotion with the audience, the scene will include a slow, sad song such as the instrumental version on “Concrete Angel” by Martina McBride. The instrumental version of the song allows the audience to focus on the family’s emotions rather than the song itself. All…

by Anh Nguyen On Sundays, mom talked about what she’ll cook for dinner and Angel played in her little swings in the middle of the park. Dad has always been taciturn and would sit on a pavilion bench talking to mom as they watched over Angel. There’s a gentle breeze as Angel and I walked hand-in-hand along the cobblestone path. “How is Teddy?” I decided to ask Angel. Teddy is Angel’s beloved pillow. They’ve been pretty much best friends since the day we got him for her fifth birthday.…

If You See Something, Do Something Many generations view music as a form of entertainment only, so our society tends to overlook the messages behind the music. Some artists use music to promote their beliefs or inform their listeners about overlooked issues. Music spreads awareness about misfortunes in the world, and Martina McBride used her celebrity status to promote her own concerns about child abuse. In 2002, Martina McBride recorded a song “Concrete Angel” to spread awareness about child…

Lord Will You Make Me Clean? Matthew 8:1-4 NIV 1When Jesus had come down from the mountain, great crowds followed him; 2 and there was a leper who came to him and knelt before him, saying, “Lord, if you choose, you can make me clean.” 3 He stretched out his hand and touched him, saying, “I do choose. Be made clean!” Immediately his leprosy was cleansed. 4 Then Jesus said to him, “See that you say nothing to anyone; but go, show yourself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses commanded, as…

This paper will describe the paintings of “The Annunciation” from painters Jan Van Eyck and Robert Campin. Even though the paintings are describing the same things I feel that there is more separating rather than bringing them together. Robert Campin was a Flemish Painter that was based in Tournai who made paintings for both middle and high-class civilians. Jan Van Eyck was also a Flemish Painter that was based in Burges who mostly worked very wealthy patrons. Jan Van Eyck’s “Annunciation” was…

goodbye to the person I gave my soul for, right? I just I don’t know. I don’t know what to say. What to do.
