The event that I attended was the fall concert by “The Dalton State Singers” that was held on the main campus of Dalton State College in the Goodroe Auditorium in Gignilliat Memorial Hall. It was a concert in which singers performed songs and the music director played the piano. Since the concert was held in the auditorium the sound was evenly distributed for everyone to enjoy. The concert was very organized which lead to a pleasurable experience. The singers performed (Shenandoah, When I Fall…

I thoroughly enjoyed observing Dr. Silveira conduct and lead the IC Concert Band in rehearsal today. Dr. Silveira led a very efficient rehearsal that resulted in a lot of playing by the ensemble, and significant improvement. At the beginning of the rehearsal, I noticed that flutes, clarinets and saxophones were there. I discovered later that this was because they were given sectional time while Dr. Silveira worked with the rest of the ensemble for a portion of the rehearsal. This allowed him to…

Jiří Kylián The basis of Jiří Kylián’s dance and choreographic career lies upon the principle that what is to be presented through his work, ought to be original and captivating. With the art of Ballet having been firmly grounded in the style of classical ballet for a prolonged period of time, it takes true grit to rise up from behind the shadows of conventionalism and to be able to take ownership in the art you produce. The work Jiří Kylián produced was far from traditional, even leading into…

I attended the Stones River Chamber Players on February 29th. This was played in the Hilton Music Hall. When I was going in I did not know what to expect because I have never been to a music concert on the MTSU campus. There were around 60-70 people who attended this concert. Most of the individuals who attended were more than likely there for a class because more than half were students who did not understand the concept of staying off of their phone. When the three performers came out they…

What can I say besides what an amazing experience? As I basically stumbled into the Verizon hall trying to seem as prim and proper as possible I began to feel the intensity of what I was going to experience. As the performers tuned their instruments, and were prepping to begin their performance I felt a multitude of different emotions and trained to maintain my composure because I actually became somewhat excited in anticipation. I never really realize how massive the areas I am are until I…

The captivating sounds of drums, and passionate voices singing, as I walked into the Alaskan Airlines Arena, will forever be embedded into my memory. My words will never give this music its rightful justice. Therefore, I highly recommend that everyone, at least once, attend a Powwow, and experience this incredible music for themselves. Although this was a class assignment, my wife and children came along with me. I thought it was a good way for us to enhance our cultural awareness, and…

On Tuesday May 10, I attended a concert by the rock band, Dorothy at The Echo. The band lineup included: Dorothy Martin(vocals), Mark Jackson(guitar), Gregg Cash (bass), Zac Morris (Drums). Unfortunately, I was only able to hear two original songs of their own creation: “Missile” and “After Midnight”. Both songs were met with enthusiastic applause and praise. I was actually anxious to see them perform live as they were mentioned in Rolling Stone magazine as a promising new band and because I had…

be incredibly quiet in order to not disturb anyone else. However, for this performance there was an incredibly joyous vibe and a lax attitude due to the style of music being presented. I attended the Golden State Women’s Choir Competition at the Lafayette-Orinda Presbyterian Church on March 4th, 2017. There, I watched the Advanced Treble Choir from Marin High School perform, directed by Stevie Greenwell. I enjoyed the concert very much. The songs selected were all very different. “Selene’s Boat” was very soft and the choir stayed very still throughout the song. “Ave Maris Stella” was a required piece, but the choir did it well. They performed it at a slow tempo, and sang the…
