In this essay I will be discussing my research findings on the positive impact recycling has on the environment of North America. . Recycling has always been advocated in various ads in television, schools, and posters all over North America. Recycling is the process of collecting things that would usually be garbage and converting them it into reusable material. Recyclable material can be found in things we buy everyday such as a soda can, plastic container, newspaper, etc. The quantity of the…
Andrea Zittel works from the self-proclaimed “Institute for Investigative Living” in Joshua Tree, CA. Her work draws upon the performance of a prophet proclaiming a better way of living, the art/craft fusion of the Bauhaus, and the humility of a desert hermit. Her property, A-Z West, is a fifty acre site in the California high desert and is an “enterprise that encompasses all aspects of day to day living. Home furniture, clothing, food all become the sites of investigation in an ongoing endeavor…
1. No Rent or Mortgage. By purchasing and living in a van, you only have to pay your car and insurance bills. No contracts, no mortgages, no property taxes, and freedom plus mobility. You can customize your van however you need based on your wants and beliefs. The only money you'd spend is on the van and your customization (which vary on the person and van). 2. No (or few) Utility Bills. This goes back to personal preference. while some may be paying $350 for internet, $40 for their phone, and…
Back home, “raised in a barn” has a negative connotation attached. What is forgotten about this is that a barn is located in an area where the skills to be cost efficient and independent are learned. This is the same area where a sense of community is established. The same area where people become one with vast nature. No, this place unlike anything familiar but the rural areas still have great potential. It is better to live in rural areas for multiple reasons, pick one. The cost of living is…
Unfortunately, I don’t think that a lot of people stop and think about the earth as often as they should. In fact, I think the last time I did anything community-based with the soil was in elementary school, which revolved around planting little gardens, composting, and learning to take better care of the earth. I don’t know how many times I had the phrase ‘reduce, reuse, recycle’ repeated at, but I definitely don’t think I’ll ever forget it. In all honestly, I think that any step is a step…
The concept of the museum is science based, with a focus on environmental issue. As time goes on and population increase, changes in the environment – good or bad – are going to have a major impact in our daily lives. The museum will bring up discussion on climate change and deforestation to sustainability efforts. We strive to help people be more conscious of the world and how their actions affect the world. We plan to use our position as a museum, which is a community based institution in…
An individual mission statement can be an extraordinary help in keeping you propelled and focused on your standards, particularly when difficulties are out of control. It doesn't need to be excellent or even especially expressive: it basically needs to portray you, your exercises, and how and why you complete them. A decent individual mission statement is as significant to the person who makes it as it is to the more extensive world which will read process and shape sentiments from it. In the…
person can disregard the earth it by tarnishing it with trash. On this day, a small seed of passion for the environment was planted. With age, this passion grew into a responsibility. I wanted to help the earth. I joined Peacejam and learned about composting waste, gardening, food ethics, and the work of Nobel Peace Prize winners. I received a plethora of new opportunities such as teaching elementary school kids about water ethics and recognizing emotions and I experience the Dalai Lama live. I…
Over the course of the semester, we have discussed the negative consequences resulting from the way we, as a society, dispose of our garbage. Most of our trash generally ends up in landfills where harmful chemicals are washed off exposing surrounding areas to harmful pollutants which are then able to cause extensive damage to both the environment and the species which inhabit the area. This method of waste disposal, while convenient for both major businesses and individual civilians alike, has…
On Saturday November 17th I went and observed the local woods of the Back 40 on the Messiah College campus in Grantham Pennsylvania, the block of land there is actually home to white tail deer and other mammals. The woods change quite drastically as one moves farther from the yellow breaches where deciduous sycamore trees and conifers such as tamaracks are common to a more mature oak forest. The weather leading up to this observation had been relatively wet and rainy, the leaves on the ground…
