My friends sat me up and carried me to the backyard. It felt like i was a wounded soldier being carried away by his fellow squad mates. I plopped down on Julia's porch bench.it was cold and I could feel the despair. I heard multiple footsteps come charging out of the backdoor. I closed my eyes and fell asleep to complete darkness again. I felt no pain and was comfortably numb. I awake again to the Villa girls acting like they just got out of nursing school by cleaning up my blood and keeping me awake. I could feel my face swell like a balloon, it was a strange feeling I had never felt before. The atmosphere was in shock and awe as everyone their couldnt believe the chaos that just happened. I could see all of my friends around me standing there in straight shock. It was like they saw their fellow brother get murdered. I felt fingers brushing through my hair and a warm hug around me. It felt calming and I could feel the kindness. I looked to see who was grasping me and it was Julia. The look on her face was straight sorrow. I calmly looked over in the distance feeling all of my pain coming on me like a tidal…

“Why do you wear your hair like that, how come you do not look like most black girls,” they say. I hover in my seat at the lunch table, biting down on my bottom lip to keep from crying. I take each and every insult that comes my way like bullets piercing my heart. My seventh grade self-went home that day and ran to the bathroom. I looked at my appearance and lost any hope that I had in myself. Hating and wishing that I looked like everyone else, just wishing that I was not born into the family…
