    Makayla staley Side Effects The character of Izzie in “side effects” The main character in my story “side effects” written by Amy Goldman Koss is an 8th grader in middle school and is diagnosed with cancer and is getting very sick. She has to get an injection called chemo and every month or so, the chemo makes her hurt all over and makes her throw up, but it's supposed to help kill the cancer inside her. It makes her feel bad but she has to do it in order to become cancer free. Izzie feels sick and awful which gives her the character traits of lazy, anxious and depressed. Izzie is very lazy these days all she wants to do is lay around and eat chips. All she wants to do is sit around watch tv, eat and draw. Her friend Kay tries hard to get her up out of the house and to come and hangout with her and her friends but Izzie wouldn't budge.Kay tells izzie every day that she needs to get up and start living life now incase something does happen to her then she really will regret not living. Izzie thinks that resting is the key but really is it? Through the story Izzie becomes depressed because everyone tells her stories about how their family or friends had cancer but did not survive. Izzie then got in her head that she wasn't going to survive and that she's going to die soon and that there was no use on even trying anymore.
