Daniel was observed during the afternoon in his second grade class. At the start of the observation, the class was engaged in a reading activity on the carpet. Daniel’s teacher, Mrs. Parker, gave him permission to step away from the activity. Daniel appeared confused as he headed in the direction of the observer. Mrs. Parker then verbally redirected Daniel to the bathroom. After using the bathroom, Daniel headed to his “cubby” and pulled out materials as directed by his teacher. The class,…
My experience at the school I attended for the school board meeting was very fascinating and exciting to learn about. I had a great time meeting the school board staff and learning about many different activites and important discussions about the school and how it is run. Most voters in the district attends a school board meeting. School board duties provides the means by which management and supervision find expression (school policies). It is the administrative body that executes and…
Why Longhand is Better There has been a long, heated debate in this new era of technology about whether or not a laptop is a better alternative for taking notes than the old fashioned pencil and paper. However, time after time again research continues to favor the side of longhand note taking. Mueller and Oppenheimer (2014) have suggested that laptops might even decrease the effectiveness in which we learn and can have negative consequences on our overall learning experience. The two conducted…
As always, my observation of Ms. de la Fuente’s 5th grade class this week began during their math time. After having returned from lunch, students reviewed TEKS concepts they need to know to pass the STAAR test and some had tutoring. After that, they began to learn that day’s lesson which dealt with area and perimeter. On Wednesday, after their usual lesson they went to the computer lab to take an iStation test. In addition to the normal observation of the class, this week I also learned about…
The learning event I attended was the Tupac Amaru Shakur exhibit in Robert W. Woodruff library. The exhibit is opened to all AUC students and staff, from Monday-Thursday, 9:00am to 7:00pm. I attended the event on Tuesday November 9th 2015. There were no speakers or performers only tour guides to help assist you in attaining your information. The tour lasted about thirty minutes and I was given a pamphlet explaining what I just experienced. This was somewhat of a guided tour. They first…
I am Jacob Murphy from your ENGL 0960-44 class that meets every Monday and Wednesday from 10:30-11:45. I am emailing you to talk about my participation grade and hope to influence so I receive a higher grade. I believe my participation grade should be an A and I hope you believe so too because of multiple reasons. My first reason why I believe I should get an A on my participation grade is that I have been in class every day since the first day of classes. My second reason is that I am always…
Picture this, a student sits in his seat in class typing on his smart phone, diverted from the lecture. Another student cautions him that the teacher asked him a question. None of his classmates comprehend what the question is, since nobody is paying attention. One of the student's friends hears the question and messages it back to him. The student then pings his friend and tells him to stall the teacher till he Googles the answer. At that point the student coolly tells the professor the answer…
When you arrive at the library at the beginning of your off-period, you expect to leave about an hour later with a significant amount of work accomplished and with seldom left to do that night. However, in the library, there are people with the goal to cause a ruckus and prevent everyone around them from getting their work done. During the period, the librarian yells at least ten times about how loudly everyone is talking and how if the volume is not lowered, silent study will begin. You leave…
Picture a young, reserved girl sitting in a crowd of rowdy children all screaming about inconsequential things, her head ducked down as she explores a fascinating book. Now picture a noisy teenager, getting in trouble for talking too much to her best friend in the class. Think these are two different people? No, both of these girls were once a shadow of me fighting to take control of my personality. I had been quiet my whole life, feeling content with living life in the background. However, come…
A chewed up piece of gum is essentially worthless. No one wants to chew on a piece of gum that has already been inside someone else’s mouth, right? Well, how would you feel if your teacher told you that you were that piece of gum if you decided to engage in any sexual activity before marriage? Elizabeth Smart, a kidnapping victim who was sexually abused for years, was told this as a young girl by one of her teachers. Smart was taken in Salt Lake City, Utah when she was 14 years old and held…
